RV Description

This HOST three slide camper and truck have been a war horse for our 6 month long camping trips over the last 8 years. The HOST was purchased new in 2016 and put on the back of our 2007 Ford F350 diesel truck that had spent the first 100,000 miles pulling a 40 foot 5th wheel. It certainly liked the lighter load of the Host camper but it's suspension needed some upgrades to handle the weight of the Host. The Helwig Big Wig sway bar was added to the back end along with new 5K shocks and Timbren heavy load rubber suspension enhancement. Those upgrades plus the Torklift StableLoad suspension upgrade and 19.5 inch Rickson like steel wheels on the back axel gave our war horse what we needed.

2016 took us from the HOST factory in Bend, OR where we picked up the camper to the eastern US and back to Arizona. 2017 went from Arizona to the Gaspe Bay Peninsula on the east end of Canada. 2018 the HOST rested in Arizona while we spent the summer working in Yellowstone with the 5th wheel. 2019 was from Arizona to Newfoundland and back. 2020, during Covid, we escaped into the White Mountains during the summer to avoid the heat followed by two weeks of quarantine outside Edmonton, Canada before we were allowed to visit family. 2021 took us to eastern Canada, another two week quarantine and more family visits. 2022 covered Arizona to eastern Canada (no quarantine required this time) then a drive clear across lower Canada to Edmonton, After Edmonton it was through the Rockies and onto Bella Coola, Canada to watch the grizzly bears during the salmon runs. A trip down Vancouver Island followed with a return to Arizona along the Pacific coast. The truck and HOST rested again for 2023. 2024 took us all the way to Alaska and back, though the camper and truck road the ferry from Haines, AK to Bellingham, WA. They really liked that part of the trip but it was a bit dark in the hold of the ferry they said afterwards.

Much of our camping was boondocking, utilizing the 65 gallon fresh water, 50 gallon gray, 30 gallon black tanks and 360 watt solar with 300 AH LiPo batteries to stay off grid at scenic spots in the mountains, on the lake shore or along the beach. The HOST is also perfectly happy to spend nights in a full hookup campground. Take her off the truck and leave the kitchen, bed room and living room at the campground while you explore with the truck. Although she does now appreciate the use of two jacks to support her backend when off the truck.

As you can tell this is not some lightly used camper and truck that spent most of it's time parked in a garage. It is a road warrior and it has some scars and wounds to show for it's 100,000 miles of travels and adventures. But like the old Timex watch, through repairs and maintenance, it just keeps ticking. Everything works on the HOST, from the generator, to the air conditioner, to the lifting jacks. A new water heater and water pump were installed in 2024. AC was repaired in 2020 along with some plumbing repairs over the years. The truck remains in great running condition but the truck bed has born the brunt of the HOST's weight and shows it on the inside.

So, what adventures would you plan to take with this setup. Again, with maintenance, and repairs as needed, there's a whole continent out there to explore.

If you want to drive down a red dirt road and camp off grid in comfort, this HOST Aspen SB 9.5 and Ford Diesel 350 truck are what you need. (Camper ($15,000) and truck ($5000) sold separately or as a pair.) The well maintained 2016 camper has three slide outs and is downright luxurious with a huge, pull out pantry, a large refrigerator/freezer, a queen size bed with memory foam mattress, and a dry bath with good storage. The booth seating area was modified to provide two captain chairs that are actually comfortable where you can dine or do office work. The hanging closet is spacious and has a pull down screen to hide and protect your clothing. Theres even room for a laundry basket or cat litter box. An easy slide out basement provides even more storage for tools and equipment. The truck is a 2006 with 199,000 miles and has many more miles to go. Modifications were made for hauling the camper including upgrading to 19.5 inch rear wheels, heavy duty shocks, and adding Timbren rear suspension. Buy the pair, and youre ready to go!
