RV Description

Workhorse W22 8.1L Vortec Big Block V8 Allison 6-Speed Dual Slides Updated Electronics

Selling my 2006 Fleetwood Bounder 35E. I recently upgraded to a newer diesel pusher, so it's time for someone else to enjoy the Bounder.

One of the main reasons I originally chose this particular coach was the combination of the 35E floorplan and Workhorse drivetrain.

A FLOORPLAN THAT REALLY WORKS FOR TRAVEL

The 35E floorplan is one of the things I've appreciated most about this motorhome, particularly after owning another Class A.

It has two large slide-outs, but Fleetwood did a very good job designing the coach so it remains usable while traveling with the slides retracted. You can still move through the coach and access the important areas without having to put the slides out. That's something that's easy to overlook when shopping for an RV but becomes very important when you're actually traveling and stop somewhere along the way.

The amount of storage space is another major strength of this coach. There is extensive interior cabinetry and wardrobe space along with a large amount of exterior basement storage. Even compared with my newer Fleetwood Discovery diesel pusher, I've been impressed by how much usable storage the Bounder provides.

The rear portion of the 35E is another reason I originally chose this floorplan. It has a large residential-style glass shower with skylight, separate rear vanity area, queen bedroom and substantial wardrobe/storage space. Combined with the 7-foot interior ceiling and dual slides, it feels considerably larger inside than you might expect from a 35-foot coach.

WORKHORSE / 8.1L VORTEC / ALLISON

This is the desirable Workhorse W22 version, powered by GM's 8.1L Vortec big-block V8 and paired with the Allison 1000 Series 6-speed automatic with overdrive.

340 HP @ 4,200 RPM

455 lb-ft torque @ only 3,200 RPM

Allison 6-speed automatic with overdrive

Workhorse W22 chassis

4-wheel disc brakes with ABS

Automatic power leveling system

5,000-lb hitch rating

I specifically wanted the 8.1L Vortec because of its big-block torque characteristics. It develops its maximum 455 lb-ft at a relatively low 3,200 RPM. Combined with the Allison transmission and Workhorse chassis, this is one of the reasons I preferred this configuration over the Ford V10 alternative.

MODERN ELECTRONICS UPGRADES

I've upgraded several of the things that tend to make an otherwise good older motorhome feel dated.

The original backup camera and CRT monitor have been replaced with a modern color LED monitor and camera system. I also added side-view cameras, which are extremely useful for lane changes and maneuvering a Class A.

The original CRT televisions have also been replaced with Samsung Smart TVs, giving the coach modern streaming capability.

I also had internal TPMS sensors installed on all six tires, allowing you to monitor tire pressures while driving instead of relying on external valve-stem sensors.

CONDITION

Everything in the coach works.

I want to be straightforward about the cosmetics. This is a 2006 motorhome that has actually been used for traveling and camping, and it could use some cosmetic TLC in places.

There is a dent in the lower passenger-side rear where I backed into a boulder while camping in the mountains. I will include clear pictures of the damage so there are no surprises.

The asking price takes the age, mileage and cosmetic imperfections into consideration.

The coach has approximately 100,000 miles. I wouldn't personally be afraid of the mileage on this drivetrain, which is one of the reasons I bought the Workhorse/8.1L/Allison combination in the first place.

I'm selling because I recently purchased a newer diesel pusher, not because of a mechanical problem with the Bounder.

If you're looking for a perfect 20-year-old showpiece, this probably isn't the coach for you. If you're looking for a functional, well-equipped Class A with a great floorplan, lots of usable storage, a desirable Workhorse drivetrain, updated electronics and everything working, I think this represents a lot of motorhome for the money.
