RV Description
Want to live on the road but cannot stomach the cost of van builds these days? Want something capable and built to live off-grid?
This camper has been our home for the past seven months, and it has been really good to us. It is built for full-time off-grid living, working remotely, getting down rough roads, and feeling solid and comfortable wherever it is parked.
TL;DR:
-Full-time off-grid camper that has been our home for the past 7 months
-Ford E-450 Super Duty with Triton V10 and under 80,000 miles
-True 4x4 with 4HI/4LO, locking hubs, and high ground clearance
-1200W solar, 400Ah LiFePO4 battery bank, and 4000W inverter/charger
-Starlink satellite installed and wired, plus WeBoost
-Remodeled interior set up for daily living and remote work
-Dry bath, Natures Head composting toilet, Dometic 3-way fridge/freezer
-Custom queen-short bed setup with trifold mattress included
-Fully walkable roof, freshly sealed in April 2025 with no known leaks
-More space and capability than a van at a much lower price point
-Great for full-time travel, weekends, hunting, fishing, or extended trips
-Move-in and adventure ready!
-Willing deduct cost of flight from purchase price if buyer pays asking price (or close to it)
Quirks:
-Onan generator has 600+ hours and likely needs a tune-up, though we never needed it
-House door handle and lock are a little finicky but functional
-Head unit occasionally turns off or does not turn on, but always comes back
-Airbag light is on due to fuse #33 not staying seated, and we plan to try to fix that before sale
-Furnace works, but the blower motor sometimes squeals on startup and may need replacing soon
-Hot water heater ignites and works, but we never used it enough to confidently speak to performance
-Torn awning
Selling because we are ready to be back home in Montana and move into our next chapter.
Long Version:
After living on the road for the past 7 months and seeing a lot of the western US, we realized that we miss being home in Montana and are starting to think about settling down and possibly starting a family in the future. Rather than letting this rig sit in storage, we want it to go to someone who will use it with intention like we did.
This is a great option for someone who wants to live on the road with more space than a van, real four wheel drive capability, and the durability of an older, overbuilt platform. It offers a lot of freedom at roughly half the cost of many modern vans, with the bonus of enough towing capacity to flat tow a vehicle if that is something you want to do. We never towed, but the capability is there.
If you are looking for a full-time living solution, a strong weekend or vacation rig, or a hunting and fishing rig that feels like home in the woods, this proven and thoughtfully set up Class C motorhome is ready for you.
Mechanical Information:
The camper is built on a Ford E-450 Super Duty chassis with the Triton V10, showing under 80,000 miles. These platforms are known for their longevity and simplicity, and this one is a great example of that era when things were built to last.
It has a true 4x4 conversion with 4-high and 4-low, higher ground clearance than any other similar Class C RV we ever saw on the road, plus auto and manual locking front hubs. In short, we confidently drove forest roads, snow, and rougher terrain without issue and got places most people with a regular Class C could only dream of.
Mechanical/External/Cab Highlights:
- 79,XXX miles on the Ford V10 Triton gas motor
- 4x4 conversion with 4HI/4LO manual shifting transfer case
- High ground clearance for getting to those off-the-beaten-path spots
- External transmission cooler
- Magnetic backup camera
- E-rated 10-ply all-terrain tires with free balancing and rotation from Les Schwab
- Tire chains included
- Hitch extender with bolt-on stabilizer
- New hubcaps not yet installed in the photos
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto head unit
This rig feels mechanically solid and confidence-inspiring. It does not feel like a fragile RV, and that peace of mind matters when you are far from town.
House/Internal Highlights:
- No slide outs, which means one less thing to maintain
- The house was remodeled by the previous owner and we added a few of our own touches to get it ready for full-time life
- Fully ready for real off-grid living
- The roof is built with 3/4 inch plywood and is fully walkable
- Roof was freshly sealed with silicone coating when solar was installed in April 2025, with no leaks or other issues
- Custom-made bed solution that allows for a queen-short bed with a trifold mattress that fits in the over-cab bunk with room to spare
- Dedicated dog bed area, with the box that houses the batteries and inverter also acting as a dedicated dog bed area and support for the bed system
- Dry bath, meaning the shower and toilet are separate
- Natures Head composting toilet
- Dometic three-way fridge and freezer with separate fridge and freezer compartments
- Fridge can run on electricity, propane, or auto mode, which chooses the best option based on available power
- Custom queen-short bed setup with trifold mattress included
- Mattress was purchased in April and always had a cover on it under the fitted sheet
- Sheets are washed and included if you want them
- Dedicated workspace that works well for full-time remote work
- Seating and outlets available at the dinette as well as the dedicated workspace in the back
- Back workspace has room for a second monitor and a hidden mounted power strip with plenty of outlets
The interior is clean, practical, and comfortable. Everything was set up with daily living in mind.
Sungold Power Solar System/Connectivity Highlights:
- 1200W of solar panels
- 400Ah LiFePO4 battery bank
- 4000W inverter and charger (strong enough to power the AC for a short period of time without hookups)
- Starlink hardware installed and wired, so you can just start your own account and hit the road
- WeBoost cell booster installed and wired
- We never used the WeBoost because of Starlink, but it is there
In an effort to be fully transparent, here are the quirks:
- Onan generator has 600+ hours and likely needs a tune-up
We never used the generator and never really needed to between the solar system and occasionally plugging in at RV parks
- House door handle and lock are a bit finicky but fully functional
- Head unit occasionally turns off or will not turn on, but it always comes back eventually
- Airbag light on the dash is currently on - I was checking fuses one day and fuse number 33 came out and will not stay seated
I plan to try to fix that before the sale
- Furnace works, but the blower motor sometimes squeals on startup - replacement motor is around $60 on Amazon and a couple hours of work if you are handy
- Hot water heater ignites and works, but we never used it, so we can't confidently speak to its performance
- Torn awning
