RV Description
I bought this to use as a mobil office for overnight business travel to avoid staying in motels and eating out but I ended up using it far more than I originally intended and put 23,000 miles on it in the last year alone. It has done everything I hoped it would do, better than I expected. This unit will tow up to 8000 pounds which is better than most others in this class but I need more towing capability and am buying a rig that can tow more weight.
Here are some things about the Pursuit 27XPS that I have learned from owning this one.
First, you can plug into a standard house 110 outlet and run the air conditioner, the water pump and heater for showers and some interior lights without having to run the generator. Use a 30 amp to 110 volt 20 amp adapter. That has been a huge benefit to me. You can not run the microwave and the AC at the same time off a standard 110 outlet, but you can get by quite nicely with a standard 110 outlet if you use common sense. I have visited friends and done this many times with no problems.
The second thing you should know is that this unit has the best power to weight ratio of any class A motor home you can buy and you can drive 75 miles per hour even up medium grades with little to no slowing down on cruise control. The 7.3 liter 350 HP Ford engine is a beast and it moves this unit along very well. I pass trucks and other motorhomes all the time in it. The fact that it has no slides makes it lighter and cheaper to maintain. I have read blog posts where a few people do after market things to (stabilize) the steering. If you stiffen the steering with modifications you cause stress to the heavy truck chassis and will do more harm than good. I drive this unit with two fingers most of the time. You do have to make fine tune adjustments while driving these but every truck I have driven is that way. Ford did an excellent job designing these. They do not need any modification other than replacing the factory tires and getting them balanced really well. That makes a huge difference in smoothness and noise. This Ford truck chassis with the 7.3 liter gas engine is used in a multitude of truck applications from delivery trucks to work trucks. They put 300,000 to 500,000 miles on them during their life with no major maintenance or steering modifications.
Third, none of the 27 XPS Pursuits that I have seen have leveling jacks, they have a stabilizer in the back that is motorized and will lift the back end slightly and stabilize it in the wind. I live in Texas where the wind blows often and I have only used feature one time. Some of these are advertised with leveling jacks but I do not think those ads are correct.
Fourth, the view out of a class A motorhome is half the experience. You sit up high on a plush chair with your legs in a normal seated position rather than angled in front, like a car or class C motorhome sitting positions. This rig is only seven feet longer than a long bed pickup truck, easy to park, maneuver and drive without needing to tow a vehicle behind it unless its your boat for the lake or jeep for the mountains. You can see the water below over the side fence when crossing bridges. You can see over most of the traffic around you. You can pull over and easily step into the back of the coach without struggling to get out of the cockpit. It is a luxury experience.
This motorhome is in very good condition. I put a new $3000 set of tires on it in June. I like having top quality tires on all my vehicles because it gives me piece of mind and as I mentioned earlier, the factory tires that come on these units are cheap tires.
The price is $65,000. and I have a clear title. The motorhome is kept in covered storage when not in use in Midland, Texas. I will share what I have learned about basic maintenance on this motorhome. The engine oil and filter and the generator oil have just been changed. The Ford recommended oil change is every 10,000 miles in these units.
