RV Description

The Winnebago Rialta 22QD is a Class B motorhome that offers compact luxury for travelers seeking a comfortable and convenient touring experience. With its low profile and relatively short length it can manuever and park in most situations like a large SUV. This vehicle is set up with the dinnette configured for a double bed, using the two captain chairs behind the driver and passenger seats for an eating area. The vehicle is based on the VW Eurovan chasis and gets 17 mpg without sacrificing performance--has been over the Rockies four times.

Inside, you'll find a cozy living space complete with a kitchenette, bathroom, and sleeping area. The bathroom area has a new toilet, and fold down sink and a shower that is accessible by removing a floor panel and pulling the bath door out two feet. The kitchen area has a sink, microwave, refrigerator, and stove top that uses propane. The propane also powers an internal heater that we have only used during frigid Ohio winters. This vehicle was purchased and used in Georgia and moved to Ohio in 2024. As a result it has seen virtually zero road salt.

The Winnebago brand is known for its quality craftsmanship and attention to detail, and the Rialta is no exception. Over the years and miles we have been to California and the western parks twice and to Nova Scocia and New England. During our travels we have experience four issues, two self induced. Due to it low profile the sewer lines are very close to the ground and can be damaged if a fast food drivethru curb is crossed at an angle. That same low clearance caused the parking brake cable to engage in Colorado in an off road excursion. The vehicle has two airconditioners, one for the cabin and one for the vehicle driving compartment. On two occasions the compressor for the latter was replaced as it attempts to work continually in hot sourthern weather trying to cool the whole RV interior. We solved this issue with a clear plastic shower curtain behind the driver/passengers seats. An alternative is to use the cabin airconditioner at the same time, but that requires running the on board generator. The final issue was the rear wheel bearings wore out, requiring replacement which was done in 2023. The bearings are unique to the Rialta since the weight is greater that on the Eurovan, but were available and required a special tool.

Owning a Rialta puts you into a "cIub" of dedicated owners. There is a website with tons of information and support, which is very useful since Rialta ownership is on occasion a challenge. VW dealers/repair facilities as a general rule do not want your business. Likewise most if not all RV businesses will be happy to work on the RV, but not the chasis. The solution is to find a local vehicle repair shop large enough to take the Rialta. We were happy to have an excellent shop in Warner Robins, GA and have found another here in Amherst Ohio.
