RV Description

Comfortably boondock year-round in this large Class A motorhome transformed with 9 solar panels and an amazing gourmet kitchen!

This low-mileage (22,054 miles) 2008 Fleetwood “Excursion 40x" was initially purchased with nearly all of the available factory options, and was upgraded extensively (including a dream kitchen and 2,700 Watts of solar electric panels) for serious long-term boondocking. That's not a typo; it really does have 2,700 Watts of solar panels on the roof! While there are now a few larger mobile solar electric systems on a handful of cargo trailers, toy haulers, and large fifth wheels, this 2.7 kWp DC system, designed and installed in 2013, is still believed to be the largest solar installation ever installed on a Class A motorhome.

The centerpiece of the kitchen is a walk-around island with a large butcher block top (36" x 46").The rolling island is oriented with separate preparation and cooking sides (each with 9 locking drawers) on opposite sides, readily accommodating a head chef and a sous-chef at the same time! The kitchen also incorporates a floor-to-ceiling IKEA storage wall of 16 individual compartments (each 13” x 13” x 15” deep) providing ready-access to kitchen appliances, cookbooks, cookware, bakeware, and other kitchen tools.

This unique, very comfortable diesel-pusher includes over 60 owner-added additions, many to facilitate all-season boondocking, making it a true turnkey RV (and a tremendous value for the selling price). It's been a great mobile basecamp for my piscatorial adventures including pursuing salmon and elusive steelhead (and occasionally moving some of them into the solar-powered electric smoker and freezer). This motorhome has never had any collisions, pets, children, or smokers (except an electric smoker oven used outside to cure fish)!

Are you a dyed-in-the-wool fisherman, an adventurer, a loner, a budding novelist, a locum tenens (i.e. traveling medical professional), an onsite tradesman, a remote worker, or finally retired and relaxing? Is solitude, quiet reflection, independence, and/or dispersed camping your thing? Perhaps you’re more inclined to glamorous camping (i.e. glamping) in a nice RV park with a pool and spa? While boondocking, the large solar installation minimizes hours on the generator. While glamping long-term where you’re paying for the electricity, the large solar installation can help minimize your monthly electric bill. In either case, this coach could be as ideal for you as it has been for me!
