This is a 1983 Volkswagen Westfallia my husband and I bought in 2001 in Naples Florida. We had decided to take a a year off from the cold of Wyoming and left Jackson with our 2 kids ages 1 and 3 in our 1970 Volkswagen cherry red camper that we sold there and then bought the 83. Although the 70 was a looker the 83 was a delightful upgrade and has such a classic look of it’s own. But with the fridge and two full beds, not to mention two propane burners we had so much I got pregnant again. We didn’t want to have the baby in Florida so we headed back to Wyoming. As procuring residents in Jackson Hole can be challenging we ended up having the baby while living in the VW we named her Liberty Reign she’s 20 now and is totally living up to her name. Another fun time in the Volkswagen was the summer of 2008, our landlord along with so many other landlords decided to sell their place in Jackson and so that summer we camped the entire summer. We then had 4 children, don’t worry we didn’t have anymore, we figured out the birth control, anyway we had the time of our lives everyone was out of diapers and we were outside everyday all day. At first I was a little put out but looking back it was the best summer of our lives. If you’re not familiar with Jackson hole it is a very affluent place and literally every other car seems to be a Tesla or some other fancy automobile it’s really just white noise but when I drive through the town square in summer or anytime every head turns that’s because the Volkswagen represents something more than just a vehicle it is a symbol of a simpler time that if you own a Volkswagen is just a key turn away. Selling this vehicle is a difficult choice but my husband died a little over a year ago and if you want to have a Volkswagen you have to be willing to be some what mechanical and although my husband initially wasn’t he became so even changing the engine out. I haven’t started it for about 10 days but when I do go out it will start right up. So many things I could write.
